As a teenager, Zebro was a protégé who taught himself how to play and read music by reading old school textbooks. He made extra money doing the homework of university music students. Later he applied to the renowned jazz program at Mohawk College. Midway through his Mohawk audition the panel stopped him and said, “ we’ll see you in September”.
Over the years Zebro’s path has always reflected his desire to push the boundaries of artistic expression. He’s performed with Prince, Maceo Parker, and Larry Graham, soul legend Rose Stone as well as blues greats AC Reed, Barbara LeShoure, and Karen Carroll. He’s toured and recorded with emerging artists like Sean Jones and he’s collaborated with performance artist Mr. Magoo. Recently Zebro has worked with trance producer Freeport. As well, he has composed and produced for enigmatic POP poet Tolin.
As a boy living in the Bahamas, he was exposed to the Jimi Hendrix album “Are you experienced?” It left an indelible mark on him … and so a life long commitment to artistic exploration began.
Zebro credits a trip to New York to see the “guitar player’ guitar player” Mike Stern perform in a small club in front of a handful of people as a significant artistically re-affirming experience.
His skills range from consummate guitarist to accomplished writer, producer, and composer his collaborations and credits range from Colours of Tara, Laura Palumbo, Geo, Cloud 9, Field of Dreams, and Mac Wils.
His performance experience, as you might expect, is a reflection of his insatiable and wide-reaching creativity. He’s performed music ranging from orchestral, to swing, to free form jazz, to acid rock to Chicago blues to pop to intimate acoustic.
Zebro finds validity in all musical genres and has always refused to be confirmed by musical prejudice.
